Uhuru ranked third most followed African leader on Instagram


Uhuru most followed  leaderA new study has ranked President Uhuru Kenyatta the third most followed African leader on Instagram, with 51,000 fans as at February 2.

Uhuru’s account had 97,700 followed on Friday. A previous study whose data was collected in January ranked him the most popular Sub-Saharan Africa leader on social media.

Egyptian leader Fattah el-Sisi took position one on the continent with more than half a million Instagram followers, while Tanzania’s former President Jakaya Kiwete came second with more than 53,000.

The 2016 World Leaders on Instagramreport by Burson-Marsteller placed Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria fourth with 45,000 followers.

“Globally, El-Sisi is the only African leader who has made it to the top 10 list of most popular presidents on Instagram at number 10, with Kikwete taking position 29, Kenyatta 30 and Buhari 33,” said the report released on Friday.

The report found US President Barack Obama the most popular world leader, with more than six million followers on his campaign account.

Obama was also ranked the most effective leader on Instagram, with more than 56,000 comments and likes for every post.

He was followed by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, who has more than two million followers and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi with 1.7 million followers.

The White House also made it to the top 10 with 1.7 million followers while Queen Rania of Jordan and Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed have 1.4 million followers each.

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, Argentinian President Mauricio Macri completed the list with more than half a million followers each.

The most liked post by a world leader was one by Obama; he wrote ‘Thank You’ after being re-elected on November 7, 2012.

The picture with the most comments was also his, with almost 200,000 comments. The image was of him getting a flu shot and was captioned: “Tell us how your life is #BetterWithObamacare”.

The study conducted on February 2 showed that all 305 world photos and videos.

Data was collected using Burson-Marsteller’s proprietary Burson Tools.
