A dramatic showdown ensued at the Kiogoro traffic check-point on the Kisii-Kilgoris road on Friday evening June 10, 2016 when Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officials busted three traffic police officers collecting bribes from motorists.

The EACC officers led by South Nyanza regional head Emmanuel Arunga received a tip from matatu operators and members of the public that the policemen were seizing vehicles on flimsy grounds, compelling them to pay heavy bribes so as to be released.

The team then laid a trap, which led to the officers’ arrest, reported Daily Nation.

At least KSh 24,840 was recovered from the three, at the time they were arrested.

One of the traffic officers was slated to meet the vetting panel in Kisumu on Monday.

“We understand that they had been collecting bribes. We are finalising investigation before they appear in court,” Arunga said.

He called on members of the public to report corruption cases, so as to help fight the vice among officers in the region.
