I am not only intrigued at the relationship Abraham had with God, but also their communication. The Bible mentions Abraham as righteous before God because he walked by faith. It also mentions Abraham as friend of God. This friendship and interaction is so evident in Genesis 18:18-33 where Abraham inquiries from God and intercedes for the righteous people in in two cities.
There are multiple lessons in this verses. God decides to show Abraham what He is about to do. Lesson, if we maintain intimacy with God, He will show us things we do not know (Jeremiah 33.3)
But I really want to focus on a second lesson. From verse 22 onwards, as the angels turned to go to the cities, โbut Abraham stood still before the Lordโ and started asking God one question after the other. Would You destroy the righteous with the wicked? What if there were 50, what if there 45, 40, 30, 20, 10? In verses 32 the Lord responded with a final answer and in verse 33 โthe Lord went His way after He had finished speaking with Abrahamโ.
Have you ever engaged God in a conversation until you got what you wanted? See the persistence of Abraham above, he just kept asking, and asking. We are in new season now; God always desires to give us more than we ask or think, Ephesians 3:20, Philippians 4:19 according to His riches. This week and throughout this season till December, engage God in conversation, keep asking for more!
Ask and it shall be given, knock and it shall be opened, seek and you shall find. Those who hunger for righteousness shall be filled. Engage God, Engage the Holy Spirit in conversation, receive more!
