CORD leader Raila Odinga has abruptly postponed a trip in which he was set to welcome Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto back to the country.

ODM Party Director of Communications Philip Etale stated that Mr Odinga had cancelled the awaited tour of the South Rift region due to unforeseen circumstances.

The Opposition chief was scheduled to attend a mega rally on Sunday, among other leaders, to express solidarity with Governor Ruto who has been away in South Africa for specialised treatment.

According to a statement from Etale, Odinga wished to spend more time in the region, therefore, the one-day tour would not have been sufficient.

“Hon. Odinga would like to spend more time in the County, meet and talk to the residents – an engagement that cannot be done in one day.
We urge our members and supporters in Kericho County and surrounding areas to be bear with us,” read part of the statement.

The prayer rally cum homecoming ceremony was set to bring together political figures who are believed to be working on the National Super Alliance (NASA) including Odinga, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Baringo Senator Gideon Moi and a host of other Opposition politicians.

The rally will be held at the historic Bomet Grounds and is expected to send a strong signal to the Jubilee Party and particularly to Deputy President William Ruto on the preparedness of his opponents in the 2017 and 2022 elections.

Ruto, who has been receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in South Africa for the past two weeks, is set to arrive in the country on Friday evening.

Some of the residents have been angry with the police who have been accused of being violent towards the governor, while others have criticised their governor for using public funds to undergo an expensive treatment for an alleged minor injury.
