DP Ruto Explains His Interest in Ksh63B Dam Scandal
Deputy President William Ruto on Thursday gave an answer to his critics on why he is interested in the Arror and Kimwarer dams in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
The DP stated water supply is a major component in the Jubilee manifesto and the ‘Big 4 Agenda.’
“As Deputy President, I have an interest in the construction of the dams. With Uhuru Kenyatta, we put construction of 57 dams in Jubilee manifesto,” he stated.
He was speaking during the closing ceremony of the 6th Annual Devolution Conference 2019 in Kirinyaga County where he cited the fight against corruption can only be won if it is not selective.
“Those with information about individuals committing crimes like corruption should submit petitions to investigative agencies,” he stated.
He went ahead to name the agencies including the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC), Judiciary and the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
On Wednesday, Opposition Leader Raila Odinga inquired why the Deputy President was interested in the dam project.
“Don’t come and tell us that it was not Ksh20 billion, it is only Ksh7 billion… who are you to tell us… how did you know?” he inquired.
In response, Ruto compared Odinga’s question to a hyena asking a herdsman why he is interested in his own herd.
“Honestly, why would a herdsman not be interested in the herd and number he is keeping?” the DP posed.
