A photo of former vice president Kalonzo Musyoka in the same audience with former secretary general of the The National Party (TNA) Onyango Oloo has touched off debate on his possible switch to the Jubilee government.
A Facebook user, who shared the photo, alleged that the Wiper leader was getting a brief from Mr Oloo, while awaiting arrival of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Talk has it that Mr Kalonzo, a Cord co-principal, could be headed for Jubilee, as the Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary, a position that could fall vacant once the incumbent Amina Mohammed is elected chairperson of the African Union commission.
But what was the context of the Musyoka-Oloo meeting?
In an interview with Nairobi News, Mr Oloo has denied trying to recruit Mr Musyoka into Jubilee.
“We were all celebrating after finalising our exams on 17th September at Park Place Hotel in Nairobi,” he said. “I was giving a vote of thanks after the former vice president had spoken.”
Mr Kalonzo was studying LL.M (Master of Laws) International Law at the University of Nairobi while Mr Oloo was studying LL.M in Democracy and Governance at the same institution.
These comes a day after Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana blamed Deputy President William Ruto’s handlers for associating him with reports by some Ukambani leaders asking Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to ditch the opposition Cord and join Jubilee Party.
A press release by the Deputy Presidential Press Service (DPPS) on Tuesday and published Wednesday in the Daily Nation quoted Prof Kibwana as having told a rally at Kibwezi that the Kamba people were ready to negotiate with the Jubilee Party ahead of the 2017 elections.
