African children’s choir comes to Weston Connecticut Saturday

The Jirani Children’s Choir, on tour from Kenya, Africa, will perform at Norfield Congregational Church on Saturday, Aug. 27, at 4.

The tour, entitled “The Unstoppable Song of Hope,” takes the choir to Drew University, Yale University, The Riverside Church in New York City, and other stops in the tri-state area. The choir’s performance at Norfield will be its only Fairfield County appearance.

Founded five years ago out of the world’s largest slum just outside Nairobi, Kenya, the Jirani Children’s Choir auditions children from the slums, gives them an education, and teaches them the beauty, discipline, and joy of making music together. Their mission is to “embrace, empower, and equip the next generation of global leaders.”

The concert includes a variety of music — classical, popular, and traditional songs, and will close with a set of African music performed in Kenyan costumes with drums and dance.

The concert is part of Norfield Church’s Nytvedt Concert Series, and is $20 for adults, and free for children 12 and under.

All are welcome, and a reception will follow the concert. For more information, contact Norfield Church at 203-227-7886.
