Family Media Chief Leo Slingerland has handed over a KSH 3,970,680.96 cheque to IDPS at Maai Mahiu camp. In a campaign dubbed โbuilding hope; one people unitedโ, Family Media together with Habitat for humanity came together to build permanent houses for people displaced by the 2007 general elections chaos in Kenya. Family Media was the official partner in this campaign raising awareness to the public and calling for support. Awareness was raised through documentaries and IDP stories showing the horror and suffering that reined on the ground.
Many people contributed to this cause to raise the money which will go into resettling the internally displaced persons who have been living in filthy tents subject to harsh elements for almost 5 years. The handing over ceremony took place at the Maai Mahiu camp where joyful camp dwellers could not help but show heartfelt appreciation to the media and its partners.
The building hope campaign ran for 3 months and raised nearly KSH 4 million. These efforts will not go unnoticed as many families can sigh in relief as they transition from displacement; to build their lives all over again. The media and its partners have brought a ray of hope to a people destroyed by animosity after disputed election chaos nearly 5 years ago. Family Media is the largest Christian broadcasting tool in East and Central Africa.
