Fox International Channels acquires Kenyan culinary show

Fox International Channels (FIC) has picked up a Kenyan food show โ€“ one of the first original commissions from African pay-TV operator Zuku โ€“ for its 24Kitchen channels.

Tales from the Bush Larder, produced by local indie Quite Bright Films, is a cooking and travel show fronted by Kenyan chef Kiran Jethwa who tours his homeland admiring the spectacular scenery and unusual ingredients.

The series was an original commission by Zuku, which airs channels in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, and it will now debut in territories including Portugal, the Netherlands, Bulgaria, the Balkans, Finland and Turkey on 24Kitchen.

The deal, secured by distributor Off The Fence โ€“ which holds the international rights outside North America โ€“ is for the first season on pay-TV. Zuku handles the distribution of the programme within Africa.

Hannelie Bekker, MD of Zuku parent company Wananchi Programming, said: โ€œThe warm reception that Tales from the Bush Larder has received outside the borders of Kenya affirms our belief that there is a market for fresh, well-produced African programming.โ€
