Heckled And Threw Stones At Raila: Charged In Embu

Monday, the 18th of February 2013 –A court in Embu today charged 14 young men with trying to disrupt a rally by CORD flag bearer Raila Odinga by throwing stones and heckling.

Paul Biwott, the magistrate hearing the case, granted a cash bail of Ksh 100,000 to the accused who include two minors. The accused denied the charges.
The 14 were charged with disrupting CORD’s rally in Embu last Friday jointly with others not before the court by heckling and throwing stones.
Joe Kathungu, the lawyer for the accused, asked the court to compel the prosecution to supply the defense team with witness statements and other evidence they intend to rely on in the case.
Chief inspector Mulamula Imbwaga, who is the prosecutor in the case, said the witnesses in the case include mostly police officers who were present at the rally, although a few civilians had also agreed to testify.
The magistrate ordered that the two minors be taken to a local hospital for their age to be determined.
The case is to be heard again next Thursday.
