Butere Girlsย High School has landed an invitation to the 2013 Continental Cup International Youth Sports Festival which will take place in Cleveland, Ohio on July 4-7.
The esteemed Greater Cleveland Sports Commission under-19 football and basketball tournament is a Continental Cup and is on track as becoming the largest annual international youth multi-sport festival in the World.
The girls have been putting quality time to prepare for the tournament that attracts young athletes from all over the globe.
According to the School Principal Dorah Okalla, the girls will battle it out in the football AC Milan Continental Cup, as well as the Cleveland Cavaliers Continental Cup Basketball the two of the four events that make up the Continental Cup.
Other events will be the Cleveland Indians Charities Continental Cup Baseball and Continental Cup Volleyball.
โWhile it is exciting for the girls to travel out there and meet with the rest of the students, our eyes are focused on winning the two contests,โ said Okalla.
Those who are making it to the basketball team include captain Sharon Sundia, Liz Okumu, Scovian Anyango, Stella Nafula, Gladys Kadenge, Delvin Chirchir, Sharon Kisivuli, Ruth Ambeba, Agnetta Kambua, Goreti Auma, Lilian Wabwele and Susan Chemtai.
The football team is led by captain Edna Sumba, Jennifer Nyangaresi, Edith Ikholi, Florence Adhiambo, Hellen Akinyi Cynthia Nyaridi, Ruth Khasoha, Mercy Mwachi, Christine Wekesa, Marjolen Wafula, Valentine Ayidi, Leyla Nafula, Rose Ndunde and Maureen Osigro.
According to the festival coordinator Brian Horsburgh, along with world class tournament play, there will be an Olympic-style Opening Ceremonies, Rock and Roll Dance Party, Feature Games, and Continental Cup Excursion Packages.-standardmedia.co.ke
