Police are looking for the public’s assistance locating the two men involved in the robbery and slaying of Ogalla.

Ogalla, a Kenyan who was in the U.S. on a student visa, was living in the Gables apartment complex in the 7700 block of McCallum Boulevard, police said.

Maj. Jeff Cotner from the Crimes Against Persons Division said Ogalla briefly went up to his apartment with an acquaintance before heading back down to his car. In the parking lot, he was stopped by two men who told him to hand over his money, Cotner said.

The acquaintance ran behind a car in the parking lot. Cotner said the shooter gave Ogalla “no time” to surrender his money, and Ogalla offered “no resistance whatsoever” to the robbers.

“Before Mr. Ogalla could respond to the commands of the suspect, the suspect fired multiple times, mortally wounding Mr. Ogalla,” Cotner said.

Cotner said police believe someone who lives near McCallum and Coit Road might have seen the suspects, who fled in a blue or silver SUV. Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and indictment of a suspect.

Ogalla is survived by his wife and children in Kenya, Cotner said.
