Someone once said that consistency of character is what gains the respect of others. In fact you will gain respect when people see that you are faithful to Godโs Word. A certain professional musician in the secular world became a Christian and stopped performing at night clubs. He then offered his services to a rescue mission to bless and serve the Lord.
A few months down the line, he received a phone call from a club manager who wanted to hire him in performing a show that would bring to him a lot of money. However, the musician turned down the offer telling the manager that he would be playing at the mission. The manager rather than coercing him to playing at his club, congratulated him for standing on his word thus the manager respected the musicianโs decision.
The world looks at Christians who do not live up to what they say they believe in with disdain because they do not practice what they preach. Therefore, in imitating Danielโs character, who even in a foreign country did not forget his religious principles, let us learn to stand for what we believe in and live our lives as the Bible instructs us. In doing so we will earn respect from those around us and in the process we will be exalting Godโs name because of living up to our words.
“But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way.”
Daniel 1:8
