Dalmas Quits ODM to Run for President in 2017

Rongo MP Dalmas Otieno has publicly decamped from ODM. He says he will form a new party to vie for president in 2017. The former party treasurer and Cord luminary has said the new party, which has been nicknamed โ€œKalausiโ€ (Luo for storm) exists and will be formed as a new party.

The announcement is set to send shock waves in ODM and Raila Luo Nyanza as the new party is set to seek curve out South Nyanza voting region.

Dalmas said that he will test the ground for presidency and if he receives weak bidding he will settle for deputy president for another preferred candidate.

โ€œI will be in the top seat at the ballot in the next election in a party that we will make known soon. The party is coming and the whirlwind that is being speculated is just a baptismal name that is on the tipping,” he said.

The legislator took a sweep at Raila Odinga and accused the Odinga family of pushing him out of ODM and discriminating on the people of South Nyanza. The rift between Dalmas and the Odinga family have widen after Dalmas dropped from ODM party elections race. “I stand the same chances of Raila becoming the president in 2017, and if I lose he will also lose out,โ€ he said.

He said he was key in Cord formation as he negotiated Cord co-principals Kalonzo Musyoka which was signed at Machakos Senator David Musila’s House in Nairobi’s Karen.

โ€œRaila turned down my proposal and picked Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho instead for the party chairperson,โ€ he said. He was addressing his constituents at the new Chamgigwadu Divisional headquarters in Rongo Sub-county of Migori County last week.
