Rita Jeptoo wins Boston Marathon in new course record

Kenya’s Rita Jeptoo has Monday successfully defended her Boston Marathon title in a course record of 2:18:57 to win the women’s race.

Following closely behind her were Ethiopia’s Buzunesh Deba and Mare Dibaba in second and third positions respectively.

Another Kenyan Jemima Jelagat Sumgong was in the fourth position.

In the men’s race, America’s Meb Keflezighi took the title in 2:01:49 making it the first time since 1983 for an American man to win the Boston Marathon.

He beat a strong field of Kenyan and Ethiopian athletes.

Kenya’s Wilson Chebet settled for second position in a time of 2:01:57 while compatriot Frankline Chepkwony was in third position in a time of 2:02:13.

Following closely behind her were Ethiopia’s Buzunesh Deba and Mare Dibaba in second and third positions respectively.
