President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday gave an order halting the demolition of Winners Chapel and other structures located in Nairobi’s South B estate.
Nairobi senator arrived at the scene when demolitions were on going, and put Uhuru on his phone’s loud speaker.
The president ordered they stop immediately and that the residents to be given more time.
Agriculture Secretary Felix Kosgei was called to the scene, where he said the 131 acres of land which the structures were built on belongs to the Kenya Veterinary Vaccines Production Institute, an agency under his ministry.
He added that the land was sold illegally, and residents should either move out or go to court.
He however advised them to go after those who sold them the land.
A few executive housing units at the Diamond Park Estate had already been brought down before the President intervened.
Winners Chapel which is also on the land in question, is East Africa’s largest church auditorium.
