NYAMIRA Senator Mong’are Okong’o and two MPs made good their threat to boycot President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Kisii visit on Monday.

Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire and North Mugirango’s Charles Geni said they were not involved in preparations to welcome the President. Nyamira women’s representative Alice Chae did not attend the meeting at Nyansiongo.

However, Borabu MP Ben Momanyi attended despite earlier threats that he would boycott the event. “We were completely left in the dark and only informed of the visit by junior government officials,” Okong’o said. Bosire said the organisers were not accommodative. “Some of us were not invited so we did not want to force ourselves to attend.

The President came for development matters that affect everybody and we should have been involved,” he said. Bosire said the meeting was a Jubilee affair as the county leaders were not consulted. “Some people want to own Uhuru but he is the President of all Kenyans,” he said. Geni said the organisers should have involved the elected leaders.

He said some people wanted to take credit from the visit. Kitutu Chache North MP Richard Onyonka criticised his colleagues for failing to attend the function.

“I was not invited but I’m here. My colleagues should have attended this function to tell the President the problems facing the people,” Onyonka said. His Kitutu Chache counterpart Jimmy Angwenyi cautioned leaders in Kisii and Nyamira against abusing the President. He said Uhuru was welcomed when he toured Migori and Kisumu counties last week.
