A Kenyan athlete is facing charges of criminal sexual contact, obstruction of justice, endangering the welfare of a child, resisting arrest and eluding Bogota police after he was accused of inappropriate conduct with a minor.
According to northjersey.com Eric Kikpemei Chirchir, 31, touched a 15-year-old girl indecently in a women’s locker room of the Bogota Golf Center in New Jersey where he works.
The unnamed 15-year-old ran out of the changing room where the two were at the time of the incident and reported to another employee who called the Bogota Police.
Chirchir who was instructed to surrender by police took off leaving his bicycle and backpack at the golf center. He reportedly ran eight kilometers to his apartment at Terrace Avenue in Hasbrouck.
Bogota police also reported that when they caught up with Chirchir, he was at his house hiding in his six-year-old daughter’s closet evading arrest.
Chirchir could also be facing charges of being in the US illegally after Immigration and Customs Enforcement put a detainer on him. If found guilty, the athlete who has run races in Israel, Italy and the US, could be deported to Keny
