Inspector General Joseph BoinettThe Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett on Saturday morning led a team of senior security officers to Mandera County after an attack that left four people dead.

Mr Boinett is accompanied by the General Service Unit (GSU) Commandant Joel Kitili, senior Administration Police officers and bomb experts.

The team left Nairobi at around 7.20am.

Mandera Governor Ali Roba’s seven-vehicle convoy was heading to Wargadud when it was hit by a Rocket Propelled Grenade on Friday morning.

Another police aircraft was also dispatched at around 6.30am to airlift the injured and the bodies to Nairobi. They are expected in Nairobi at around 2pm.

Immediately after the attack, the gunmen also attacked two vehicles transporting miraa from Wajir to Mandera at the same spot.
