The Director of Public Prosecution Keriako Tobiko has cleared Siaya Senator James Orengo of graft charges leveled against him by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
The DPP ordered for closure of Orengo’s file citing lack of substantial evidence to prosecute him.
The Siaya Senator was accused of allegedly receiving a Ksh 5 million bribe for the sale of a plot in Nairobiโs Westlands area to former Mayor George Aladwa.
In the EACC report tabled in Parliament by President Uhuru Kenyatta during his State of the Nation Address, Orengo was further accused of irregularly renewing a land lease for plot No. LR 861 in 2008 that he had initially acquired in 1975.
Orengo had earlier on appeared before EACC detectives alongside suspended Transport Principal Secretary Nduva Muli.
Muli is accused of irregularly facilitating the disposal of Kenya Railways properties in Nairobi and various cities in Kenya and irregular awarding of tender for the construction of the Standard Gauge Railway.
