Swahili Institute of Chicago (SWITCH)
Founded in 1988 by Baba Simba Tayari, SWITCH is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting Swahili language and African culture.
They offer Swahili instruction and cultural activities for all ages, including preschool through college students, as well as public and private organizations.
Their programs aim to foster world language competency, cultural appreciation, and personal growth through activities like singing, dancing, and drumming.
Northwestern University – Program of African Studies
Northwestern University offers Swahili language courses through its Program of African Studies.
These courses are available to both undergraduate and graduate students and focus on developing proficiency in modern Standard Swahili grammar, speaking, reading, and writing.
The program uses multimedia resources and provides placement tests to ensure students are placed in appropriate proficiency levels.
