Residents of Machakos County seemed elated to have been visited by the Republicโs First Lady Margaret Kenyatta on Friday August 21, 2015 as they adorned her with traditional gifts.
The gifts, which were presented by the countyโs First Ladyย Lillian Nganga at the Machakos Kenyatta Stadium included:
-A locally woven nthungi popularly known as kyondo with a mukwa strap
-Neck and arm beaded ornaments
-An embellished dressing with its belt, traditionally worn by women leaders in the Kamba community
-A painting of local fauna
Margaret Kenyatta spent the day atย the county and among other activities, sheย launched a mobile clinic for her Beyond Zero campaign aimed at addressing the challenge of maternal and child mortality.
Commending Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua on his development-oriented leadership style, he urged the county government to create jobs for the youth so that they avoid โrisky lifestylesโ, particularly young women trapped in prostitution along the busy Nairobi-Mombasa highway cutting across Machakos County.
