HOW UHURU WAS SERVED WITH VEGETABLE ‘LEFTOVERS’ AT THE UN

Uhuru address in UNDetail have emerged on how President Uhuru Kenyatta and other world leaders were served with salad made form vegetable scraps at the UN Climate Change Conference.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has disclosed that some of the most powerful people on the planet last Sunday ate the food normally thrown away or left to rot by supermarkets for lunch.

About 30 world leaders were served with the “landfill salads” made out of vegetable scraps.

They were also given water drained from cans of chickpeas, burgers made from vegetables thrown away for their low quality, french fries (chips) produced using corn typically used as animal feed and desserts consisting of coffee cherry pulp, cocoa bean shells and leftover nut skins.

The vegetarian menu was designed to highlight the fact that more than a third of all the food is wasted even as the UN launches an ambitious agenda to end hunger and protect the environment.

“Our lunch was produced from food that would otherwise end up in landfills, emitting methane, a potent greenhouse gas,” UN secretary general Ban Ki Moon explained.

The amount of food wasted in the world is “shameful when so many suffer from hunger,” Mr Ban said.

The meal was served to the world leaders after they adopted 17 new Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) which was co- sponsored by Kenya.

The goals created 169 targets, to be met by 2030, which focus heavily on the need to tackle climate change and end poverty and hunger worldwide.
