KAKAMEGA Senator Bonny Khalwale has denied jumping over the fence at a funeral in Malava subcounty on Sunday last week.
It was reported he jumped over the fence and was confronted by Malava elders at the burial of retired senior chief Isaac Luvonga at Matsakha village.
The elders said the senatorโs move was disrespectful to the chief.
But Khalwale said there was actually no fence for him to jump over.
He said there was no clear entry to the service venue of the burial.
โI entered the home using the gate, viewed the body then proceeded to the field where the service was being conducted,โ Khalwale told the Star on the phone on Sunday.
He said he was not confronted by the elders during the funeral service.
Khalwale said when he arrived, his supporters surged forward to greet him.
Khalwale said the elders thought his supporters would disrupt the service and cause unrest, but it was not so.
He said he never had an altercation with the elders.
โBeing greeted by my supporters does not amount to confrontation.โ
Khalwale said reports that the elders are angry with him are untrue.
