Kidero reinstates Walter Mong’are as Nairobi communication director
Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has reinstated Walter Mong’are alias Nyambane as county director of communication.
County secretary Robert Ayisi asked Mong’are to resume duty on Thursday in a letter dated Tuesday.
The rehired director was seen at City Hall on Wednesday. Sources said he had re-occupied his office.
Mong’are wrote on Twitter: “I thank [Kidero and] the Public Service Board. I am glad to be back to serve Nairobi City County [Government] as a communicator.
He had earlier shared a picture on his Twitter page of Deputy Governor Jonathan Mueke hosting two religious leaders in his office.
Mong’are was appointed on May 8, 2014. He was suspended on May 3 and later sacked for failing to submit copies of his academic and professional documents to the county public service board.
He was later replaced with former Bungoma communication director Noela Musundi .
But Musundi did not stay long at City Hall as she was sent on compulsory leave for unclear reasons a week after reporting.
Sources claimed Mong’are was relieved of his duties for failing to improve the Governor’s image after several hits. Others alleged he was fired after falling out with Kidero.
His sacking came at a time when at least 55 people had died after a building collapsed in Huruma in April. Other issues that the Governor had been criticised for were flooding, garbage collection, hawking and traffic jams.
