Mwingi Central MP Joe Mutambu is demanding forย a Sh100 Million compensation and an apology from his party leader Kalonzo Musyoka for alleged slander.
Mutambu, who was elected on a Wiper party ticket, is suing his party leader over remarks he made at a rally on October 7 in Kitengela town, Kajiado county.
Mutambu, who recently announced his intention to decamp to the Jubilee party, stated that Musyokaโs comments were false and malicious.
The alleged slander can loosely be translated to mean that Mutambu is unfit to hold office and should, therefore, ย go back home.
โThe said statement was made in the presence of a massive crowd of people and was recorded on national television. It was made with the intention of portraying our client as a criminal and a person unfit to hold the position of Mwingi Central MP,โ his lawyer Katunga Mbuvi submitted in court papers.
Mutambu further arguedย that he is an influential personย being an MP, and the seriousness of the allegations and the airing of the recording on national TV putย him into disrepute in the public arena.
โWe demand the payment of Sh100 Million as compensation for maligning and character assassination to our client,โ Mutambuโs lawyer stated.
The MPโs lawyer added:ย โWe understand you are a lawyer and you understand the implication and consequences of such careless utterances.โ
Musyoka, who is one of the three CORD principals, has been given seven days to comply failure to which he will be sued.
