The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji has called on the police to investigate and prosecute a man captured in a video beating a woman in Makueni County.
“The DPP has directed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to immediately have [the] suspect arrested and arraigned before court,” reads a tweet from the office of the DPP published Tuesday.
The 58-second armature video that has outraged women rights crusaders shows the assailant identified as Nzomo raining blows, kicks and slaps on the defenceless woman.

A small crowd is heard pleading with him in Kikamba to rethink his punishment saying what he is doing is wrong and could land him in trouble with the authorities.
The video which has been shared an online has gone viral with those reacting to it condemning the assault and calling on the police to arrest the man.
Makueni Woman Rep Rose Museo and the countyโs Deputy Governor Adelina Mwau joined thousands of the online community and FIDA in condemning the brutality.
โIt does not matter what the woman had done to the man. She did not deserve that kind of punishment. The man should be arrested and prosecuted,โ said Ms Museo in response to witness accounts that the man was punishing the woman for infidelity.
Those condemning the incident that Nation has confirmed happened on Monday in Iviani Village also took issue with the witnesses heard in the video urging Nzomo to stop the beating but they did nothing to help the woman who was being beaten mercilessly.

DPP Hajji further directed that those who watched and participated in the unacceptable brutality be arrested and arraigned in court too.
The woman was admitted to Makueni County Referral Hospital where she was rushed by Good Samaritans as the assailant described by his neighbours as a dreaded man went into hiding.
In a tweet, FIDA said it was shocked by the act and called on the Inspector-General of Police Joseph Boinett and the office of the DPP “with immediate effect”.
