Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong’o has been rushed to hospital after falling sick during the installation ceremony of Rev. Philip Anyolo as the new Catholic archbishop.
Reports indicate that Nyong’o is currently admitted at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Aga Khan Hospital though he is out of harm’s way.
Speaking to journalists, the hospital’s Medical Director Dr. Sam Oula said the governor was feeling dizzy when he arrived at the facility, adding that they administered the necessary medication.
He was among a host of leaders who welcomed ODM Party leader Raila Odinga at Uzima Grounds where the function was held.
Other leaders who were present include CSs Eugene Wamalwa and Raychelle Omamo; MPs Chris Wamalwa and Otiende Amollo; Senators Moses Kajwang and Moses Wetangula and Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati.
The first-term governor has battled ill health since 2010 when he announced that he was taking a break after being diagnosed with prostrate cancer.
He would later fly out to San Fransisco, US, where went through intensity modulated radiation therapy and was cured.
Shortly after being elected as the Governor of Kisumu County in 2017, Nyong’o traveled to the United States again for a surgery to replace his hip bone which was injured during an accident in November 2016.
However, he could not seek proper treatment at the time due to the heated political campaigns.
“Without going into much detail, I have all along been waiting for an opportune moment for the hip replacement surgery as the last solution to my problem,” Nyong’o said in an interview.
His absence from office from mid-December 2017 to mid-February 2018 resulted in a huge fall out in the county government as his enemies were accused of plotting to oust him.
In September 2018, Nyong’o underwent surgery after he slipped and fell on a pavement while attending a conference in Nyeri County.
