“Concord of Peace”
By Bishop Dr. Douglas P. Muchiri
July 2009
More than any other time in history, Kenya desperately needs unfeigned Peace. The absence of peace means Kenya will degrade and subsequently degenerate into a chaotic mess. I say anarchy since many of our leaders are in a quandary, not knowing peace nor the modus operandi to bequeath peace to Kenyans. The situation is awkwardly catastrophic necessitating a “Concord of Peace” to happen immediately! I propose the Concord of Peace should happen every last Friday of the month of November, that is the 27th of November 2009. A day set aside yearly for Prayers, Forgiveness, and Thanksgiving for all Kenyans. The day hallowed as the day of “Concord of Peace” or “Ijumaa ya Salaam.”
The “Concord of Peace” is legitimated by at least two divine ‘Covenant Pledges’: The first is the Promise of God to King Solomon in the Old Covenant: “if my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14). And the Second is the command from the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ found in the New Covenant: “Forgive us our sins, just as we forgive those who sin against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil … For if you forgive men their sins, your heavenly father will also forgive you: but if you forgive not men their sins, neither will your heavenly father forgive your sins” (Matthew 6:12, 14-15).
The materialization of peace includes a Sovereign government of the people characterized by Serenity and Tranquility of mind. Harmony and Agreement among neighbors, End of war and Freedom of strife among tribes, Reconciliation of differing people groups and dwelling together in unity, Settlement of displaced persons in all localities of Kenya, Celebration of Friendship of all persons in Kenya and Prosperity of every Kenyan person.
The appropriation of Peace is albeit expensive and calls for all of us, without exception, to be prepared to pay the full price for Peace. In other words, true peace knows no shortcut. As a Servant of God, this is what I humbly recommend:
1. That one week before the “Concord of Peace,” everyone in Kenya gives themselves to Prayer and Fasting. Remember that Nineveh was saved when the King and the nation repented by humbling themselves through Prayer and fasting and even though they were an evil nation, God still saved them.
2. Parliament to Declare this day an “Ijumaa ya Salaam” Public Holiday to allow Wananchi to congregate in their various houses of Prayer for prayers of Peace and intercession for the Country.
3. The climax of this a solemn gathering be at the Jamuhuri Park where Religious leaders will lead all leaders and the Nation at large in Prayers of Repentance, Forgiveness, and Thanksgiving.
4. Important also is to invite the former President Daniel Arap Moi to confess the sins of past political regimes.
5. Then have both President Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila, Publicly confess their sins in leading Kenya astray in the 2007 Elections and thereafter. Moreover, no mincing of words because they both stand guilty!
6. Also, have the Deputy Prime Minister, Uhuru Kenyatta, and Honorable William Ruto among other Political Leaders stand on behalf of the people to confess the sins of the Kenyan constituents.
7. The Program should be led by at least 12 of our Spiritual Fathers representing all the eight provinces and the Diaspora. Among them Apostle Dr. Joe Kayo; Bishop Dr. Arthur Kitonga; Bishop Mwatha of PEFA; Bishop Tuimising of Deliverance Church, Bishop Ndingi Mwana Nzeki, Bishop Manasseh Mankuleiyo, and Bishop Adoyo et al.
8. The Color Green to be declared the color of the day, since Green represents Peace, Life, and Prosperity!
Friends, all of us have sinned and truly fallen short of God’s Glory. Therefore, I pray that all of us, without exception, will prefer to earnestly pursue God’s glorious Peace via Repentance, Forgiveness and Good will instead of vengeance. And O how much I pray for Kenya and Kenyan posterity to know and experience true peace in this age and in the age to come.
May peace be our heritage as Kenyans both now and forever,
