A suspect in the murder of Kabete MP George Muchai accused the police of torturing him for a confession on Friday.
Resident magistrate Miriam Mugure ordered that 20-year-old Simon Gachamba be examined at Kenyatta National Hospital and a report submitted to the court.
The murder case was adjourned following the prosecution’s request for more time to carry out investigations.
Gachamba will remain in custody at Muthaiga police station until March 10 when the case will be mentioned.
Police may drop the charges against Gachamba, who was arrested with phones stolen from two women carjacked in Nairobi and their car used by Muchaiโs suspected killers.
Detectives believe that by doing so, they will strengthen their case and prove charges of robbery with violence against two women and four men suspected to have killed Muchai on February 7.
Eric Isabwa Muyera alias Chairman, Mustafa Kimani Anyonyi alias Musto, and Jane Wanjiru Kamau alias Shiro were arrested last Friday at a house in Murera, Ruiru after they fled from their homes in Kangemi to avoid arrest.
The other suspects in police custody are Margaret Njeri Wachiuri, Steven Astiva Lipopo alias Chokore and Raphael Kimani Gachie alias Kim Butcher.
The suspects have since told the police that they were not assassins hired to kill Muchai.
They claimed they were on a night-long robbery mission and took an interest in the MPโs car only because they saw it has stopped near the roundabout.
