Mr Joseph Kipchirchir Boinett was on Wednesday sworn in as Inspector-General of Police.
He was sworn in by Chief Justice Willy Mutunga.
The new IG comes into office at a time when the country is grappling with insecurity, whose epitome was last monthโs shooting and killing of Kabete MP George Muchai, his driver and his two bodyguards within the city centre.
Mr Boinettโs appointment was not without controversy.
During his vetting, MPs questioned his academic qualifications after it emerged that an online, distance-learning school, Washington International University, which is incorporated in the British Virgin Islands and gave him a Bachelor of Arts degree in Diplomacy and International Studies, was not accredited by America’s Council for Higher Education Accreditation and the Distance Education and Training Council.
He has two master’s degrees and has attended 12 other professional courses.
