Elgeyo Marakwet governor Alex Tolgos has asked parents to withdraw their children from learning institution in North Eastern region following the recent terrorist attack in Garissa University College.

Tolgos said the region has become a “terrorists’ hub” and a security risk for students.

He said students currently studying in other tertiary institutions including Garissa Medical training college are living in fear following the killing of 147 of their colleagues in Garissa University by al Shabaab.

Speaking during the burial of two victims of the attack, Isaack Bushen and Joy Kibor of Kapsogom in Embomir villages in Marakwet East, Tolgos said leaders from the North Easter region should take responsibility for the attack.

He said the leaders have failed to cooperate fully with the government in the fight against terrorism in the region.

He said they had failed to name members of the al Shabaab and their sympathisers operating in the region.

Area senator Kipchumba Murkomen blamed the increasing cases of terrorist attacks in the country on the grand coalition government led by former President Mwai Kibaki and the current opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Murkomen said the coalition government failed to curb radicalisation of the youth.

“What was the coalition government doing when terrorists were busy radicalising the youth?” He posed.

Elgeyo Marakwet lost five students during the attack.
