Easter prayers at ACK Memorial Cathedral church in Mombasa were Sunday morning interrupted after unknown people allegedly tried to force a vehicle inside the church compound.
According to Bishop Julius Kalu of ACK Mombasa diocese, all planned church activities were suspended immediately after a suspicious Toyota Morano was sported abandoned at the back exit of the church by two men of Somali origin.
The clergy also confirmed that all church faithful attending the Sunday service were instructed to leave as security officials embarked on a through operation to investigate the matter before taking the car to an unknown destination.
The suspects escaped after being intercepted by security officers at the back exit of the church.
At the same time, a lady was allegedly picked by the security officers manning the church after she was accused of conversing with unknown people using her mobile phone during a church service.
The bishop said the incident scared hundreds of faithful who had turned up in large numbers for Easter celebrations.
