Babu Owino’s threat-laden letter to the US Ambassador was “nonsensical” as US President Barack Obama can visit any university, President Uhuru Kenyatta has said.
Uhuru said Obama, who will visit Kenya next week for the 6th Global Entrepreneurship Summit, does not necessarily have to go to the University of Nairobi.
He was speaking during the opening of the Kenya-Japan conference on infrastructure at Serena hotel, Nairobi on Thursday.
In the letter to Robert Godec released on Monday, Owino said 18 University of Nairobi students have threatened to commit suicide if Obama fails to visit the campus.
The Sonu chairman further warned that 31 female students would urinate on a tree Obama planted at the university in 2006, when he was Illinois senator.
โMale students will do worse. This will be catastrophic, calamitous and cataclysmic. God forbid,โ he said.
โIt saddens our hearts that President Barack Obama is not scheduled to visit the great UoN… I therefore honorably appeal to Obama to visit…โ
Owino requested Godec to appeal to Obama to visit the university, saying they will listen to him at any time of day or night.
He said students and lecturers are eagerly waiting for the US President’s address at Taifa Hall.
