Plans are underway for Kenyans in the Diaspora to get training from the Government of Kenya through the Public Procurement Oversight Authority (PPOA) at the forthcoming Kenya Diaspora Summit, scheduled for September 18th-20th in Newark, New Jersey USA.
Kenyans in the Diaspora have skills and resources that can be of benefit to various Ministries and Government departments in Kenya.
The training will cover; e-procurement, how to get an IFMIS number, how to search and receive purchase orders, how to submit purchase orders/change requests, how to receive immediate notification, how to identify procurement opportunities, the requirements on how to supply the government , how to avoid common errors that applicants make, winning strategies of successful bidding, effective management of tendering process, contract performance, how to finance your tender and quicken payments.
Through the International Confederation of Kenya Diaspora Organizations- ICKDO-, the Diaspora will work together via multiple partnerships, in order to be able to handle large and complicated projects in an efficient and timely manner.
The Diaspora will also extend their partnership model to include local entrepreneurs and innovators in Kenya. Through this process, the Diaspora women, youth and disabled, will now be able to take advantage of the apportioned 30% of all public entities procurement spends within a given financial year.
The Government of Kenya has in addition developed legislation to facilitate the implementation of this objective through the Public Procurement and Disposal Regulations. This affirmative opportunity to do business with the Government will generate employment for this affirmative group and others and help in the Diaspora driven push for socio-economic development of the country.
