16 year old Kenyan boy,Peter Njenga Karanja was diagnosed with aplastic anemia 6 on August 24th 2014. After seeing several doctors in Kenya, he was sent to India for further treatment where he remained for a year. During this time doctors tried different treatments without success and decided to keep him on a temporary medical regimen of blood transfusions and antibiotics while researching new treatments.
The National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland became interested in his medical case and set out a successful search for bone marrow donors, found in his uncle, William Mbugua Njenga. Peter traveled to the US with his uncle and his mom, Mrs Emily Nyokabi Mwangi on September 24, and is currently slated to undergo the transplant in February 2016 as his body builds up strength for the process.
While the exploratory treatment at NIH is free of cost, Peterโs family has a pending medical bill in India. His family and friends raised a whopping 6.8M shillings towards the 7.7 M bill. We are now calling for well-wishers and people of good will to help raise the remaining 0.9M as well as the cost of living expenses for the two family members who accompanied Peter to the US.
