On Monday, the coalition filed a petition to be allowed to hold their rally. Justice George Odunga will hear the petition this afternoon.

Last week, Cord temporarily suspended demonstrations against the IEBC and issued a 10 day ultimatum for the government to respond to dialogue calls.

But the government ruled out the possibility of discussions with the opposition over the reconstitution of the electoral body.

Uhuru said removal of IEBC officers can only be undertaken within the confines of the law.

Cord wants IEBC commissioners out of office before the 2017 general elections.

Last Monday, three people died in Siaya and Kisumu following confrontations between police and protesters.

Heads of foreign missions said Kenyans must take every opportunity for inclusive dialogue on the IEBC stalemate.

The envoys said dialogue was necessary in order to solve the current standoff between the government and the opposition.
