President Uhuru Kenyatta’s reelection bid in 2017 has received a major boost in Kwale county after a group called ‘Warembo na UhuRuto’ was launched.

The area is known to be a Cord zone.

The group, under patronage of nominated MCA Fatuma Chizumo, aims to ensure Jubilee get more votes in the area.

In 2013 general election, Uhuru got 17,633 votes in Kwale county compared to Raila Odinga’s 101,407 votes.

Addressing journalists yesterday in Diani, the Jubilee leaders accused Cord of using its popularity to steal Jubilee votes in 2013.

“We know Uhuru got a lot of votes from Kwale and the Coast at large, but our colleagues in ODM stole them. This time round we are alert,” Chizumo said.

She asked the opposition to brace for a tough political battle next year.

Ambassador Chirau Mwakwere of URP has declared interests for the governor’s seat. He will battle it out with Governor Salim Mvurya, Nicholas Zani, speaker Sammy Ruwa, Daniel Dena and Mwachai Mwarapayo.

Chizumo, who was accompanied by about 50 Jubilee members from the county, dismissed claims the region is a Cord zone.

“You cannot refer to Kwale county as an opposition zone, when we have 22 Jubilee MCAs and only 11 from Cord,” she said.

Nominated MCA Mwanamisi Libondo accused Cord of encouraging hooliganism.

“Kenyans, including those from Kwale county, are tired of Cord which is fond of using hooliganism,” she said.

Kinango constituency Jubilee activist Gladys Mboga said Raila will not get support in Kwale.
