US-based Kenyan lawyer Prof. Makau Mutua is widely known for his controversial comments which he is not afraid to express in national newspaper columns and on television interviews.
He has especially been criticised for his refusal to acknowledge President Uhuru Kenyatta as the president of Kenya.
However, what many do not know is that Mutua is a man of many firsts and has had an outstanding life as a Kenyan intellectual.
Here are six photos that document the lawyer’s impressive journey:

Prof Mutua is currently seeking the position of Chief Justice of Kenya and is set to be interviewed by the Judicial Service Commission next week on Monday.
