46 Machakos MCAs Sign Motion To Impeach Governor Mutua
Forty six members of the Machakos County Assembly have appended signatures to a motion to impeach Governor Alfred Mutua.
The MCAs ย cite abuse of office, integrity issues and lack of public participation in decision-making among other issues in the motion.
The impeachment motion which will be presented before the House Business Committee on Tuesday.
There are a total of 59 MCAs in the Machakos County Assembly and an impeachment motion requires a two-third majority votes to pass.
The MCAs claimed that Governor Mutua never consulted residents and the county assembly when he erected three statues for Kamba leaders, Muindi Mbingu, Paul Ngei and Mulu Mutisya, at various locations in Machakos town.
Deputy Speaker Nathaniel Nganga said no budget was approved for the statues erected on the eve of Mashujaa Day.
Governor Mutua had last week claimed the impeachment motion was an effort by the MCAs to extort him money, adding he will not โsuccumb to blackmail.โ
โI want to tell them that I will not give them a penny. This money belongs to the people of Machakos and is for development,โ he said.
He added that it was shameful for elected leaders to blackmail a governor for their own selfish interests.
โThese leaders should be rejected by the voters come the elections. They do not deserve to be in positions of leadership,โ he said.
