Coast leader’s state reasons for voting Jubilee in 2017 elections

Residents of the Coast will vote for Jubilee because of the development projects the government has implemented in the past four years, local leaders have said.

Leaders, who led a delegation of Chonyi and Kauma elders from Kilifi County, thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta for the way he has steered the affairs of the country.

They said a lot of infrastructure development has been undertaken at the Coast, something that has not happened since independence.

Addressing the delegation at State House Mombasa, the President said more projects would be implemented in the coastal region and all parts of the country. He said governments are elected to improve the lives of its citizens.
”It is for this reason that we should resolve our differences in an atmosphere of peace so that we do not disrupt the development tempo,” the Head of State said.

MPs Gideon Mung’aro (Kilifi North), Mustafa Idd (Kilifi South) and Peter Shehe (Ganze), who accompanied the elders, cited projects that have been completed or are going on in the region.

”No one can ignore what the Jubilee Government has done at the Coast,” Mung’aro said. ”The days of empty promises by the Opposition are over.”

Mung’aro cited various projects under construction such as the 100km Mariakani-Bamba-Kiwandani Road, 110km Malindi-Sala Gate Road, 48 Km Kaloleni-Mavueni, Mazera-Kwazengo Road joining Malindi Road and the 63km Sabaki Bridge-Marafa-Baricho Road in Kilifi County.

Others are the 80km Garsen-Mokowe Road and 100km Hola-Masaalani Road in Tana River County, the upgrading of Mwatate-Wundanyi road and 120km Mwatate-Taveta Road in Taita Taveta County.

The projects also include the Airport and Port Reitz roads, and others in the pipeline such as Dongo Kundu Bypass, Miritini-Kipevu dual carriageway in Mombasa County.

Key water programmes in Kilifi County include the Sh2.7 billion 56km Kakuyuni-Kilifi and Kakuyuni Gongoni-Magarini projects, the Sh100 million Ganze-Banda project, Kafulani-Muriachake water project at Sh62 million and Chakama Women group water project whose cost is Sh70 million.

Kilifi South MP Idd said during the Coalition Government, money was allocated for the Ronald Ngala Utalii College and Kilifi-Ganze Mariakani road, but it was misappropriated. Only after Jubilee Government took over that the projects started.
Ganze MP Peter Shehe said: “Currently, 75 percent of my constituents are connected to the national grid. Our children who used to graze cattle are now back to school and the latest national exam results have shown tremendous improvement.”

The delegation had visited President Kenyatta over administrative boundaries they want aligned. But on electoral boundaries, the President told them that was the mandate of IEBC.

Responding to issues raised by the elders of the two communities, President Kenyatta said there is need to reach consensus so as to build trust in solving challenges whenever they arise.
