NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 11 โ Kamba leaders have assured President Uhuru Kenyatta of their support in his re-election campaign ahead of next monthโs repeat presidential election.
Ukambani leaders at the meeting include Governors Mike Sonko, Alfred Mutua, Ambassador Kiema Kilonzo, David Musila and Masinga MP Itwiku Mbai.
Musila who lost the Kitui gubernatorial contest to Charity Ngilu has told the president that he will marshal support for Jubilee from Tuesday to ensure he gets more votes from Ukambani.
The meeting was also attended by Kitui South MP Rachel Nyamai who took issue with Kalonzo Musyokaโs decision to carry an M-PESA paybill banner seeking funds for NASA.
The meeting is part of a wide strategy by Jubilee to consolidate more support from Ukambani and Western Kenya that are largely considered Opposition strongholds.
Earlier, President Kenyatta met with business leaders and assured them that Kenya is stable and no one will be allowed to disrupt peace before, during or after next monthโs presidential election.
President Kenyatta said the Executive and Judiciary are functional while the Legislature opens Tuesday and the law making process will continue.
He told them to ignore political rhetoric, continue with the growth expansion plans and forge ahead, creating jobs for the youth.
Kenya Private Sector Alliance CEO Carole Kariuki commended President Kenyatta for his commitment to peace and ensuring a conducive environment for business prevails even during the electioneering period.
