Governor Mike Sonko yesterday donated Sh1 million to victims of election-related chaos in Kawangware.
The money was given to business owners who lost property in the clashes. Sonko contributed another Sh100,000 to each family that lost a loved one to cater for funeral expenses.
He said the city government would look for other ways to help the affected families. โThe County Government of Nairobi, under the Disaster Management Unit, will also assist all the affected families irrespective of their tribes.
Let us all preach peace, forgiveness and agree to move on. Politics should never be used to divide our beloved citizens,โ he said.
On Monday, the Kenya Red Cross Society donated Sh50, 000 to each of the 33 households affected by the chaos.
Property of unknown value was destroyed in Kawangware on the evening of October 27 and one person was shot dead as police attempted to end a fight between two rival political sides.
Groups of youths armed with stones engaged the police in running battles for hours as they protested against last Thursdayโs repeat presidential election.
The rowdy youths attacked and seriously injured several residents. Approximately 10 people are reported to have died since the start of the violence.
