IEBC Opens Voter Register for Inspection, Kenyans Have 14 Days to Inspect Voter Roll
Kenya’sย electoral commissionย has opened the voter ย registerย for public inspection. One can confirm their registrationย details by sending their identity card or passport number to short textย messageย code 15872.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) communicationsย managerย Tabitha Mutemi said besides the SMS option Kenyans can verify their details by visiting their respectiveย registrationย centres.
You can also visit the IEBC website ย and key in the ID or passport number to access your details, Ms Mutemi said.
The name of the voter, county, constituency, ward and station in which they are registered will be displayed in any of the platforms one opts to use.
Ms Mutemi asked voters to visit their polling stations in caseย the detailsย supplied were wrong.
The voter register will be open for scrutiny for two weeks, after a month-long registration that closed on December 18 last year.
IEBC chairman Ahmed Issack Hassan said the commission opted to issue an SMS number for checking voter details after they found out that 60 per cent preferred this method while only 10-15 per cent would go to voter centre to verify the information.
The final voters’ list will also be made accessible to the public on the IEBC website and available to political parties.
The commission is also expected to release the names of people who register edusing fake documents and those who registered more than once.
The names of the individuals, who face arrest, will be deleted from the record.
