The two-day Kenya Diaspora Conference kicked off on Thursday with participants from different areas of government, the private sector and diaspora community.

This year’s theme is ‘Connect, Engage, Invest’ in a forum that seeks to boost interaction between Kenyans at home and those abroad, who have come to be known as the ’48th county’.

A similar conference was held at the weekend in Washington, DC.

The government has come up with a National Diaspora Policy, which is set to guide its interaction with Kenyans abroad to draw in their input into national development.

The document, which is waiting Cabinet approval, will address matters such as improving information and services to the diaspora, creating networks and voting.

The growing value of the resource that is Kenyans in the diaspora, has seen greater affinity to boost national income with this input.

According to the Central Bank, as at October this year, diaspora remittances amounted to over Sh86 billion.

The conference at Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi runs from December 19-20
