The Working Governor:Should the Supreme Court send Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero home, we would be foolish to return him. He has done absolutely nothing of note for Nairobi with the city arguably dirtier than it was 2 years ago.
He has refused to do a simple garbage collection at Ngara roundabout despite Kenyans on Twitter pressuring him. If the process of recall was simple and straightforward, I would be the first to advocate for it. Thatโs my opinion though. Now in complete contrast, Machakos governor ย Alfred Mutua yesterday launched โMakutano ma Mwala to Kithimani Roadโ. Itโs a 33 km road that has been built in a record 3 months.
Not that am insinuating anything, but Thika Road (45kms) took several years. Thatโs not all, the road cost a third of the estimated cost, simply because of Mutuaโs โgeniusโ. A while back he was in Dubai where he says he saw roads being divided into very small sections for different contractors, instead of a single contractor getting the whole of it or a big part of it.
For the 33 kms, 11 contractors were involved, each working on 3 kilometres.ย According to Mutua, the road could have taken 3-4 years had it been allocated to a single local contractor. This road is considered the most important link in Machakos County, and has been promised by three former presidents to no avail. This is the first tarmac road to be built by a county government in Kenya. Again, Mutua keeps on scoring.
