SIAYA MCAs stopped a provincial administrator from reading President Uhuru Kenyatta’s condolence speech on Saturday during the burial of a terror victim.
Deputy county commissioner Peter Jumwa was prevented from reading the message during Prisca Wayodi’s burial in Siaya Township.
Wayodi is among the 147 killed in the April 2 massacre at Garissa University College, where 79 others were injured.
Jumwa was forced to hand the President’s condolence letter to Wayodi’s parents, without reading it.
Siaya Township MCA James Otare dismissed the President’s speech, terming it an insult to Kenyans.
He said the Jubilee government has for a long time had misplaced priorities in dealing with security in Kenya.
“We do not want the President’s speech read to the public as he has failed to ensure security,” Otare said.
Central Alego’s Leonard Oriaro urged the state to fully devolve security.
He said: “The government has to fulfil its mandate of security to Kenyans rather than using baseless gimmicks like Nyumba Kumi, which failed from the very start.”
South Uyoma MCA Christopher Apiyo urged Uhuru to resign as he has failed to protect Kenyans.
Jumwa told MCAs to pass laws to address security.
He urged residents to support the Nyumba Kumi neighbourhood watch initiative to weed out al Shabaab sympathisers and other criminals.
This will help improve security, Jumwa said.
