Word For Today:False Confidence

Have you ever looked at somebody else’s sin and said…..how could they? I thought they were a Christian how could they commit adultery? If we were to be honest we have all been there. Looked at another’s sin and thought I could never do that, me? Never!

At the right temperature, water will boil. I love saying that to people who think they are beyond certain kinds of sin.

It is usually easier to embrace and understand people who struggle with the same kind if sins you struggle with or have struggled with, but we are usually harsh with those who struggle with sins we don’t struggle with.

Peter had walked with Jesus, closely. He had heard his words first hand, he had seen the miracles. There was no way he thought he could deny Jesus. In his mind he would be wiling to die with him.

Peter underestimated his weaknesses. At the right temperature the water did boil…Peter did the unthinkable, he denied Jesus not once or twice but three times. I am sure when Jesus told him he would deny him,Peter must have thought… Jesus on that one you are wrong.

Acknowledging your weakness is the first step to true strength. You are only as strong as you are honest. The reality is we are all capable of falling into sin…any kind of sin.

Have you looked at the sin of another and thought I could never do that? Be careful because as they say, pride comes before a fall. It is only the blood of Jesus that can overcome sin.

Practical Application
1 Corinthians 10:12 Even if you think you can stand up to temptation, be careful not to fall.

Luke 22:33-34 (ESV)
Peter said to him, “Lord, I am ready to go with you both to prison and to death.” 34 Jesus said, “I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow this day, until you deny three times that you know me.”
