Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko has hit out at Governor Evans Kidero for his remarks over former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguruโs suitability to vie for the cityโs gubernatorial seat in the 2017 polls.
While presiding over the opening of a new mortuary at Mbagathi District Hospital on Wednesday, Dr Kidero claimed that the former CS was riding on the scandalous National Youth Service (NYS) project to launch her political career in Nairobi.
But in a quick response barely 24 hours later, Sonko, who is known to have a long drawn political rivalry with Kidero, jumped to the defence of Ms Waiguru saying the former CS has initiated development projects that have impacted the lives of all Kenyans, an example being the hugely successful Huduma Centre.
โWewe umepewa billions unafanya nini (what have you done with the billions at your disposal?) yet there are tangible beneficial development projects she has done and creation of jobs to jobless youths,โ Sonko wrote in a Facebook post.
FRESH TWIST
This fresh twist in the relationship between the cityโs Governor and Senator has stemmed from the former CSโs recent endorsement by women leaders drawn from across Nairobi for the gubernatorial seat in next yearโs polls.
โIt worries me to hear a leader saying that she (Waiguru) used State resources to gain political mileage,โ added Sonko, who has also in the past expressed interest in the cityโs gubernatorial position.
The senator further added that he sacrifices his own money to help around with tangible development projects and that if he were in Kideroโs position, Nairobians would feel the effects of having a good governor.
