Detectives probing the murder of lawyer Willie Kimani and two others have revealed how a section of police officers across the country are able to commit crimes without being detected.
The investigators working for the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), on Friday divulged that the rogue officers have acquired their own walkie-talkies which they use monitor police communication, when off duty.
The officers, who operate as a group, use the devices to hack into police frequencies where they follow communication and movement of their colleagues.
After retrieving information on the location of officers on duty, they are then able to conduct their criminal activities in areas where their is no patrol.
The detectives who addressed Nation on the grounds of anonymity as the investigations are incomplete, said that the rogue officers have also acquired firearms outside the official police systems.
They use the weapons to kill suspects in situations where the officers do not want to be questioned on the use of brutal force. The murders are then blamed on gangsters.
The revelations come at a time when, four administration officers are under investigations over the brutal killing of lawyer Kimani, his client Josphat Mwenda and a taxi driver Joseph Muiruri.
The deceased bodies were discovered dumped in Oldonyo Sabuk river in Machakos County.
Kimani was abducted after appearing in court where he was representing Mwenda who had sued a police officer for attempted murder.
